This proposal eliminates the External Materials and Services ($15,000) contracted service to mitigate the presence of geese in parks like South Waterfront Greenway. This ($15,000) professional service utilizes trained dogs to chase geese away from open park areas. This humane management of geese on parks property provides the following objectives: cleaner grounds and Revenue Recommended Total improved water quality, lusher landscapes and decreased erosion, lower costs associated with grounds maintenance, mitigation of aggressive territorial geese, and increased biodiversity of native General Fund Discretionary ($15,000) birds, waterfowl, and mammals. Elimination of this service will reverse these objectives and also reduce sanitation of turf due to presence of goose feces and reduce park usability and recreation ($15,000) due to territorial geese. Service Impacts This proposal will reduce usability, recreation, and sanitation of park due to presence of goose feces. Geese overgraze lawns and vegetation, reducing healthy turf and increasing erosion, thus increasing maintenance costs to renovate turf and replant vegetation. Equity Impacts This proposal will reduce park and recreation services to diverse populations including communities of color, immigrants and refugees, and other diverse communities who enjoy the park by reducing usability and recreation opportunities due to presence of goose feces.
