($778,727) Service Impacts Revenue Recommended Total Citywide Sports offer an affordable and unique athletic experience for youth and adults. The Charges for Services ($111,814) volleyball program offers 4th grade-12th grade practice and competition to 200 athletes in the fall and spring. The Goldenball program has over 200 teams and 2,400 athletes in 3rd-6th grades General Fund Discretionary ($666,913) competing in youth basketball program is to encourage the City’s youth, regardless of ability, to learn ($778,727) the fundamentals of the game. Many of these youth join the city-wide program because they didn’t make their schools’ teams. The all-comer track and cross-country meets are in partnership with Foot Traffic and offer families a time to come together and compete, each meet has over 200 participants. The $5 5K Series Fun Runs are family friendly 5K races that take place monthly from May through September at parks throughout Portland and kids run free. 5K fun runs are also well attended with over 500 runners at each of the 5 races. Removing the two Recreation Coordinator II will also affect the oversight of Community Partnership Program (CPP) Grants with Girls on the Run, Friends of Baseball, Portland Community Football Club and North Portland Soccer Club. This would leave the Sports Program Supervisor to oversee the Owens Complex and annual tournaments at the softball complex, the annual Powwow and the relationship with the Bow and Arrow Club, the management of the sand volleyball courts and management of the Portland Tennis Center Supervisor and the Athletic Fields Supervisor. Equity Impacts Sports are important for youth and adults. To have access to affordable athletic programs is crucial to the City. Sports are more than a physical activity; they have significant positive effects on mental health and social well-being. The sports program offers an affordable opportunity for all to compete with their friends and families. Goldenball and volleyball are team-based registrations with no measurable data regarding race or ethnicity of the players. However, there are a high percentage of Title One schools, with diverse participants from all across the city, including East and North Portland elementary and middle schools.
