23,612 - Reduce Washington Park Zone EMS Budget Service Area Vibrant Communities DCA Sonia Schmanski Bureau Name Portland Parks & Recreation Director Adena Long Funding Type Name Reduction Status: Recommended Package Desc Expense Recommended Total This proposal will result in a decrease in the External Materials and Services budget in the External Materials and Services ($30,870) Washington Park Zone cost center associated with West Lands. ($30,870) Service Impacts Revenue Recommended Total These funds are used to contribute to project costs of small, non-capital park improvement projects General Fund Discretionary ($30,870) such as International Rose Test Garden and Hoyt Arboretum improvements, the purchase of supplemental plants and materials such as rock and fencing to enhance horticultural beds and ($30,870) reduce the amount and frequency of play chip and playground feature replacement. Over time this will result in a reduction in the safety of our park amenities particularly for children, a degradation of the visual aesthetic of the space and contribute to an environment that does not feel well cared for or safe. These smaller important improvements also help extend the life of amenities and help address maintenance issues that unaddressed contribute further to the large body of deferred major maintenance needs. It will also reduce the purchase of tools and equipment to complete park maintenance work in an efficient manner. Equity Impacts This proposal reduces park care at Washington Park and will negatively affect experiences of park visitors from diverse populations, communities of color, seniors, teens, immigrants and refugees, people living with disabilities.
