Appendix II: Success Stories and program data The following CVI participant success stories represent a small sample of the positive impacts these programs have on the lives of individuals and families at high-risk for being perpetrators and victims of gun violence. Participant A (HHP): In the face of life-threatening injuries and medical staff expressing doubts about survival due to multiple gunshot wounds, Participant A embarked on a healing journey in the Healing Hurt People program demonstrating unwavering courage and commitment. Through collaboration with OHSU, Participant A completed a rigorous treatment plan including weekly physical therapy sessions. Participant A also successfully participated in an internship program that led to securing a fulltime position with a previous employer. Participant A’s aspirations extended beyond immediate goals to attending OSU in Corvallis to pursue a degree in engineering. Participant A’s success story stands as a testament to resilience, determination, and the transformative impact of collaborative support in overcoming life's challenges. Participant B (ICM): Initially hesitant toward engaging in the ICM program, Participant B has made a lot of progress following his safety plan and making real life changes. Participant B obtained fulltime employment and relocated with his family to ensure their safety. Moreover, Participant B built a relationship with his Parole Officer and successfully got his driver’s license reinstated, including fulfilling all the requirements of court-ordered sanctions, completing substance abuse treatment, having a breathalyzer installed in his vehicle, and paying court fines. Participant B is now helping new referrals into ICM engage with the program. Participant C (SLO): The outreach team connected with a youth exhibiting significant behavioral issues both at home and school. Participant C had been expelled from school for aggressive behavior and he shared with the outreach worker that he struggles with identity issues. The outreach worker connected Participant C with mental health services, which helped him to feel more grounded in his identity. As a result, Participant C shared that he has never felt more safe and secure and for the first time is starting to think about and plan for the future including wanting to engage in a GED program. 10
