23,673 - Civic Life - 8% cut Service Area City Administrator DCA Michael Jordan Bureau Name Office of Community and Civic Life Director Mourad Ratbi Funding Type Name Reduction Status: Recommended Package Desc Expense Recommended Total 5% cut eliminates District Office community small grants at $175,958, and cuts District operating External Materials and Services ($477,949) grants by $122,760. Additional 3% cut reduces Diversity in Civic Leadership (DCL) grants by ($477,949) $179,231 for a total cut of $477,949. Revenue Recommended Total Service Impacts General Fund Discretionary ($477,949) Elimination of the District Office small grants will be partially offset by Civic Life resources allocated to the community activities fund administered by Civic Life staff. The $122,760 cut reduces the four ($477,949) District office operating budgets from 1,583,631 to $1,460,871 or about 7.7%. Additionally, the current ongoing funding for DCL programs is $384,109 and the 3%, or $179,231, reduction in grants will amount to nearly 31% of the ongoing funding. The realignment of bureau programs and the citywide transition present opportunities to explore how the DCL mandate of focusing on grass-roots community-based organization is being implemented and ensure that the program operation is in accordance with the City’s commitment to equity. This will also create the potential to identify new partners that may see a greater benefit from available funding than more established organizations. Equity Impacts While the total investment in existing DCL partners will be reduced, this change also has the potential to create opportunities to increase capacity among other culturally specific community- based-organizations that may be less established or familiar with receiving grants from the City.
